Needle points are very sensitive to any impact. Even the slightest contact can lead to mechanical damage and can lead to a bent point, a so-called hook.
Our customer’s requirements were as follows:
• Needles with a hook > 0.02 mm need to be identified and separated
• Bent cannulae need to be separated
• Missing needles need to be identified
• Needle types with various dimensions need to be inspected
• A failure analysis which would allow accurate production statistics
• User-friendly software
• In 1.5 second cycles carriers loaded with 12 needles need to be checked and evaluated
The distance between each needle is only 25mm. A miniature camera and illumination
is positioned above each needle
The program compares the captured camera images with
sample images of good and defective needles. In this way the images are not compared
pixel by pixel, but compared for typical characteristics.
